Thoughts - Forget Me Not Media Blog

This journal highlights some of our latest work as filmmakers and photographers. In addition to weddings, we lead documentary productions across the globe. In absolutely everything that we do, love drives our work: A love of people, a love of this beautiful world we inhabit, and a love for unique story telling pushes us to grow in our craft. This work should speak for it’s self, and we hope it speaks to you as well! So, if you love what you see, don’t hesitate to connect with us!

How We Respond - Climate Change Stories & Solutions - Documentary Series

How We Respond.jpg

I am so thrilled to announce the publication of an environmental multi-media project we’ve been working on with Impact Media Lab and The American Association for the Advancement of Science these past four months called, How We Respond. This project focuses on inspirational stories of individuals, communities, and businesses coming together with scientists to adapt to, and combat, climate change. Solutions to some big problems are highlighted, and the whole series really aims to shift how we all view climate change. So often people feel disempowered in the face of climate change. Part of that feeling probably stems from the history of climate change being communicated as an inevitable apocalyptical scenario that spells out our certain doom. The reality is that some big changes absolutely have to take place, and quickly, but from my perspective, climate change can actually be seen as a great opportunity. With the help of the scientific community, I truly believe we can use climate change as a motivator to make our communities stronger, more resilient, and just more beautiful places to live in. So with this project, I really hope that people can see there are solutions out there… Solutions they can use or be inspired by... Solutions they can implement in their communities. And my biggest hope, is that this project really can start to shift the paradigm and inspire action! As one individual in our Dane County film says, “There is so much in our power that we can do! And we have to do something!”

I have pushed and pushed to use film as a medium to help make the world a better place since I started down this path in 2002. I honestly feel like filming weddings is a great expression of my desire to seek positive change through film. Love is the backbone of any meaningful progress in our society, and the act of marriage is a dedication to love. My love for my wife and two sons motivates me every day to be my best self. My love of the environment, and protecting the natural beauty all around us, is also so strong and I believe it is connected and intertwined with that love I have for my family. So, having the opportunity to be a writer and the lead editor on the How We Respond project has meant so much to me. There were countless late late nights throughout this process. My second son was born three days prior to us starting in on this epic project, and balancing parenting and the editing requirements of this fast paced project were often challenging. (Thank goodness for stellar coffee!) But one thing that kept me super motivated was the thread that kept coming up in all these unique stories: the next generation gets what we give them. Like many of the individuals in our films, I want to be a great parent, and so I want to guarantee that I did everything in my power to help build a more sustainable future. So, please enjoy these films, get motivated, find little things you can do regularly, or jump in full fledge and make as big an impact as you can right now towards building a brighter future for us all!

So, at long last, I am excited to now present these films to our friends and family! I was the lead editor, writer, and/or colorist on 8 total films and I will release 1 film each week here on our website and social media spaces, but if you can’t wait to see them rolled out here, just visit the AAAS website or youtube channel to watch them all. Below is one of my personal favorite films. I hope you love it and the follow films to come!

Cheers

PS: I feel so fortunate for the team I was able to collaborate with on this project: Kika, Peter, Ryan and all the folks at AAAS, you guys have made this a blast! And to all the sponsors who came on board, from The North Face, to Hunt’s Photo & Video, we so appreciate your help getting this project off the ground!
